Herron is writing some of the best spy stories of the last 20 years. Now that might not seem like much because most of the finest ones were done before then, but that’s just most. These are not the sort of spec ops thrillers which get most of the credits like the excellent Mitch Rapp or John Wells books do. These are books about the system, planning, climbing and covering of the intelligence business. Though this is just a short story, and Jackson Lamb and his stable of horses are a supporting cast, it was a very satisfying handler and asset tale.
